With Sydney and Melbourne always top Australian destinations, the vibrant, innovative and fast evolving city of Brisbane is often forgotten. With near year round perfect weather there is no bad time to explore the capital of Australia's sunshine state and my home town!
1. SOUTHBANK Pack your bathers and a picnic basket for a fun day out! Who needs to head to the Gold Coast to escape the QLD heat when you can cool down in the city's man made beach? Walk along the Brisbane River exploring local markets. Find a patch of grass and set up for a family picnic or enjoy a beverage or two at one of the many bars and restaurants littering the riverfront. 2. MT COOTHA For 360 degree views overlooking this metropolitan city, Mt Cootha is a must! Particularly beautiful at night, there is an abundance of things to explore here. During the day dine at the Kuta Cafe while soaking in the views. Spend your afternoon exploring the botanical gardens at the base of the mountain and at night get your telescope ready for star gazing opportunities! 3. LONE PINE KOALA SANCTUARY There is no place better in south-east Queensland to spot Australia's incredible wildlife. Hand feed Kangaroos, cuddle our teddy bear like Koalas and snap the highly endangered Tasmanian Devil. I would recommend allowing 4 hours to explore the sanctuary. Besides from the above mentioned highlights you can't miss Lorikeet feeding and the Australian sheep sheering show! 4. STORY BRIDGE Whether you are an adrenaline junkie who loves to climb monuments or if you're like me and enjoy taking them in with your feet planted firmly on the ground, this Brisbane bridge offers you both. From as little as $99 you can complete the Story Bridge climb or check out the Story Bridge hotel for a great feed and view! 5. QUEENSLAND MUSEUM & SCIENCE CENTRE No matter your age, there is fun to be found for everyone at the Queensland Museum & Science Centre. Interactive displays and optical illusions will keep you not only engaged but amazed by the world of science. When visiting the Queensland Museum be sure to check out my favourite exhibit - Dinosaurs! 6. XXXX BREWERY Love Beer? This place is for you. Queensland's much loved XXXX beer factory is located in Milton, Brisbane. Enjoy a guided tour around the brewery and be rewarded with free taste testing at the end! To soak up all the beers dine at the XXXX Pub conveniently located at the end of your tour. 7. SUNCORP STADIUM Home to the Brisbane Roar, Brisbane Broncos and QLD Reds, sports fanatics can't pass up exploring Brisbane's heart of sport. Live games are played weekly and tours of the stadium run every Thursday at 10:30am. If you're heading to a weekend game, head to Caxton Street in the city afterwards to celebrate with thousands of supporters at numerous pubs. 8. QUEEN STREET MALL Shop until you drop in Queen Street Mall! Once you are exhausted from exploring the Myer Centre and boutique shops lined up down the shopping strip, check out the entertainment districts. Parklands, bars, restaurants, arcades and cinemas are all on offer! 9.
